Peyton Mayzel

Peyton Mayzel is a Mental Health Counselor, Board-Certified Music Therapist and Reiki II Practitioner. She works as an outpatient mental health therapist at West Hartford Holistic Counseling Center in West Hartford, CT. Peyton enjoys working with pre-teens and adolescents, as well as young adults, and adults of all ages. She specializes in working for those struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss, trauma, and relationship struggles, as well as executive dysfunctions and ADHD. Peyton also has an area of expertise with secondary substance use disorders, as well as chronic illnesses, such as auto-immune diseases, Crohn’s Disease, MS, gastrointestinal issues, chronic pain, and fatigue. She believes that the mind and body are fully connected, and that mental and physical health affect one another. Peyton believes in taking the whole person perspective and treating mental health symptoms as such. She uses a person-centered and trauma focused approach in the therapeutic space, helping clients develop helpful coping skills to manage symptoms. As well as processing hard feelings and grief, as well as enhancing the mind-body connection through somatic skills. Being a human is challenging, and there are many life stressors and transitions, at all ages and stages, that one can go through. Peyton believes it is important for all clients to have a safe space to feel validated and receive the skills they need to succeed. Building rapport is very important, and Peyton strives to provide an open and safe place for clients to express how they feel, and their needs, all in their own time, providing them with agency, autonomy, and control. Peyton believes that a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy techniques can provide those who struggle with trauma, depression, and anxiety gain skills to manage symptoms, and live a more well-rounded life. These skills can also help navigate life transitions. Such as, changing schools, going into a new grade or college, starting a career, or changing jobs, going through a divorce, and many other life changes. Peyton’s goal for clients is to be able to use expressive, CBT and DBT skills learned in session, outside of counseling as a tool for teenagers and adults to help improve personal and social relationships, building self-esteem and communication skills, as well as a more fulfilling life.

I take a client-centered and strengths-based approach, working with you to identify your goals and create an individualized treatment plan that meets you where you’re at. I operate from a person-centered theoretical approach, but draw on elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing as well. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Connecticut with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University. I have a background working with a diverse client population at both the outpatient and intensive outpatient levels of care, and am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist.
