“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us, ”
said American author and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson. The difficulty is often convincing
ourselves that this is true. Much of human life is spent ruminating about the past and fearing for the future. When we can stay present in the moment we realize how strong we really are.
John Connelly’s role as a therapist is to help individuals, couples, and families uncover their strengths.
Obviously, this is easier said than done. Often there are significant obstacles.
I have experience helping people with substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, and more. For me and my clients, therapy is a collaborative process. It is important for my clients to
recognize that I am walking with them on this journey of self discovery and healing.
Personal challenges can be very isolating. Part of my job is to remind my clients that they are not alone.
Working with people struggling with addiction has been a particular passion of mine for the
last 28 years. Helping individuals see the impact addiction is having on them and their loved
ones, and then guiding them through the recovery process is an enormously gratifying
experience. For that matter, helping individuals, families, and couples overcome challenges of all kinds is also enormously gratifying.
I am ready when you are. And like Emerson said, what lies ahead of
you is no match for what lies within.
